A North Carolina farmer was named the inaugural winner of The Good Farmer Award U.S., a competition through Rodale Institute and Davines North America.

MAXATAWNY TWP., BERKS COUNTY, Pa. — A North Carolina farmer has been chosen the first winner of a sustainable farming award co-sponsored by Rodale Institute.

Clarenda “Farmer Cee” Stanley, founder and chief executive officer of Green Heffa Farms, an organic herb farm, on Earth Day was announced as the winner of the good Farmer Award U.S.

“Receiving The Good Farmer Award U.S. is a powerful affirmation of what we’ve been cultivating at Green Heffa Farms,” Stanley said.

“This is for every farmer out here doing the work, honoring the land and building something that’s bigger than a bottom line.

“Green Heffa Farms was never just about crops — it’s always been about cultivating change.”

The award, funded through a partnership between Rodale Institute and Davines North America, a sustainable beauty brand, opened in late January.

The competition sought farmers with less than 10 years of experience who exemplify sustainable farming practices while contributing to community and environmental health.

The award comes with a $10,000 prize, to go toward equipment or initiatives, and an all-expenses-paid trip to the European Regenerative Organic Center in Parma, Italy, valued at $5,000.
