BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Stop us if you’ve heard this before.

The Lehigh Valley is under a winter weather advisory this weekend, when a wintry mix (yeah, you’ve heard this before) will bring more snow and ice on Saturday.

Tuesday could bring more snowfall, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

The winter weather advisory will run 3 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, with mixed precipitation expected.

The National Weather Service is calling for total snow and sleet accumulations of up to 2 inches and ice accumulations up to two-tenths of an inch in and around the Allentown area.

It’s part of a parade of wintry systems potentially taking aim at the region over the next week or so, but there’s still a lot to iron out.

Again, winter weather bulletins have been posted for much of the region Saturday. Snow and sleet are expected to arrive in the Lehigh Valley about 4 p.m.

According to the weather service, as the storm tracks closer to the region, we’ll see the possibility of an area of heavier precipitation before a changeover to sleet and freezing rain occurs from north to south.

“The greatest potential for ice accumulation in excess of one-tenth of an inch will be along the I-95 corridor up into the Lehigh Valley,” the forecast discussion said.

The storm is expected to exit the region before daybreak Sunday, so Sunday afternoon and evening are anticipated to be dry but blustery.

‘A very active weather pattern shaping up’

Guidance “continues to depict a very active weather pattern shaping up next week, with several weather systems impacting the area,” the weather service said.

The first system looks to arrive on Tuesday, but timing and intensity of potential snowfall remain a question.

Another system should be right on its heels and arriving Thursday.

“It is still quite too early to be certain on precipitation type for this system, but guidance does suggest that this may favor liquid over frozen,” the weather service said.

“Regardless, there is at least some confidence in encountering some accumulating snowfall next week across much of the region.”
