BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh Valley was the bullseye of a coastal storm that left the region awash in flood waters on Monday.

More than four inches of rain fell in Portland, Northampton County, the National Weather Service reported. That total could be updated again, with rain still falling in the area after 11 a.m.

It was the highest rainfall total in the Lehigh Valley, though Fogelsville in Lehigh County reported 3.84 inches around 9:30 a.m. Monday.

A gauge at the Delaware River in Easton was forecasting minor flooding for Tuesday, and a graphic shared by the weather service's Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center showed the heaviest rains from the storm fell over the Lehigh Valley and much of central and northern New Jersey.

Schools are closing early and a large swath of the region is under a flood warning until at least 3:15 p.m. as the storm system that inundated the area overnight moves north.
