SALISBURY TWP., Pa. — Chiropractic services will no longer be offered by Lehigh Valley Health Network come the spring, the organization said Thursday.
A spokesperson for the health system said the move is part of the restructuring process already underway.
“Ten chiropractors are affected," the network said in a statement. "Three additional chiropractors are aligned, but independent, and are not affected.
"About a dozen other staff are part of the service and all of them will likely be redeployed to open positions in the health network."
LVHN said it will phase out chiropractic services in April, but patients still will have access to those services until then.

“In any large organization there will be occasional restructuring for various reasons,” the statement read. ”This is one of those situations and from time to time, restructuring happens based on community need and demand as well as other factors.”
In October, a couple hundred employees were let go from LVHN, which is one of the area's largest employers. LVHN employs about 20,000 people, meaning the fall cuts accounted for about 1.2% of its staff.
The announcement about chiropractic services comes nearly a month after LVHN made public their intent to merge with Jefferson Health.
Paperwork for that deal is expected to be filed with the Federal Trade Commission this month.
“At this time we are both continuing business as usual as independent organizations,” LVHN’s statement said.
The two systems currently have a non-binding letter of intent to combine.
