TreeHouse Foods, the manufacturer that produces Giant’s waffles, has issued the voluntary recall on a wide variety of waffle products due to listeria concerns.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A business that supplies Giant with store-brand products has issued a recall for their waffles due to potential listeria contamination, the store announced Friday.

According to Giant and TreeHouse Foods, several varieties of their waffles, including blueberry, buttermilk, chocolate chip, homestyle, and multigrain, may be contaminated with listeria.

TreeHouse Foods, the manufacturer that produces Giant’s waffles, issued the voluntary recall.

“Listeria monocytogenesis an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria monocytogenesis infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” a release from TreeHouse Foods reads.

According to information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1,600 people per year are affected by listeria, and 260 people die from it.
