SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa, — A new orthopedic hospital in the Lehigh Valley will begin treating patients this fall, officials say.
St. Luke’s University Health Network will open the two-story, 52,000-square-foot facility at its West End Medical Center on Cetronia Road in South Whitehall Township.
The $44 million hospital will be equipped with newer technology, such as the VELYS robot-assisted orthopedic surgery system.
St. Luke’s said it will add 80 nurses, technicians, therapists and other staff to work in the orthopedic hospital.
“We want our patients to realize this facility was built completely around their needs."St. Luke’s Orthopedics Chairman Dr. Douglas Lundy
“This hospital will provide the ideal orthopedic patient experience in terms of quality, comfort and convenience,” St. Luke’s Orthopedics Chairman Dr. Douglas Lundy said.
The health network is calling it a specialty hospital for orthopedic surgery. Doctors there will do same-day surgeries of the knee, hip, spine, hand and shoulder, and treat an array of sports-related fractures and other injuries.
“We want our patients to realize this facility was built completely around their needs,” Lundy said.
The location will have eight operating rooms and 24 rooms for pre- and post-surgery care.
“This hospital is the logical next step in the continuing evolution in our orthopedics program, and it will take patient care to the next level of quality and efficiency,” said Jessica Kamensky, the service line administrator for the network’s Musculoskeletal Service Line.
