Man found dead in Lehigh County quarry identified

The Pennsylvania State Police Bethlehem Criminal Investigation Unit is leading the investigation after a body was found in a quarry in Slatington.

SLATINGTON, Pa. — Authorities have identified the man found dead Monday in the water of an underground quarry in the borough.

The body of Jesse Rutt, of Walnutport, was discovered at 11:34 p.m. in the area of the Slate Heritage Trail in the 300 block of East Church Street, a release from the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office said Thursday.

Coroner Dan Buglio said an autopsy was completed Thursday morning, but the cause and manner of death are pending further investigation and the completion of additional forensic testing.

Rutt was last seen on Friday, Nov. 29, according to the Walnutport Police Department, which had asked for help locating Rutt on several Facebook posts.

The Pennsylvania State Police Bethlehem Criminal Investigation Unit is leading the investigation, according to Trooper Nathan Branosky.

The coroner’s office is assisting with the investigation, along with Lehigh County Emergency Management, Slatington Borough Police Department, Walnutport Police Department, Slatington Borough Fire Department and the Walnutport Fire Department.
