- The USDA has put out a public health alert for a Wegmans product
- The raw jerk chicken may have unlabeled allergens
- The product was shipped to locations in Pennsylvania
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a public health alert about a Wegmans product that may have unlabeled allergens.
The marinade in a specific batch of the raw Wegmans jerk chicken may have been cross-contaminated by an equipment malfunction in the processing plant.
The potentially contaminated products may contain milk, soy and wheat and were shipped to Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania.
A recall was not put in effect because the products are no longer available for purchase, but if you have Wegmans jerk chicken in your fridge or freezer, check the expiration date.
The products subject to the alert are:
- 1-lb. vacuum-packed plastic packages containing “Wegmans Jamaican jerk style chicken thighs” with a use by date of “9/6/23.”
- 1-lb. vacuum-packed plastic packages containing “Wegmans Jamaican jerk style chicken breast cutlets” with a use by date of “9/6/23.”
No reports of reactions to the allergens have been confirmed, though the USDA recommends going to a doctor with any symptoms.
