Citing safety concerns, owners of the Lehigh Valley Mall might not allow LANTA bus service on the mall grounds as of June.

WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Come June, Lehigh Valley residents looking to get to the Lehigh Valley Mall property by LANTA might be left to find another mode of transportation.

No ifs, ands or — uh — bus.

Citing safety concerns, mall management has notified Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority that bus service may no longer be permitted on the mall grounds.

“LANTA and Lehigh Valley Mall management have been cooperating in a process to identify an alternative that addresses the needs and concerns of LANTA and our riders, as well as the mall and its tenants.”
LANTA Executive Director Owen O’Neil

The following notice was posted on LANTA’s Facebook site on Wednesday morning:

'Lehigh Valley Mall Alert:

Starting June 2025, LANTA bus service will be relocated off the Lehigh Valley Mall property at the request of the mall.

We are currently seeking rider feedback to help identify reliable alternative locations for transit service. Please take a moment to complete our brief survey to share your feedback."

The LANTA bus shelter at the mall was in the parking lot outside the mall entrance between Boscov's and Macy's.

In an email statement on Wednesday, LANTA Executive Director Owen O’Neil said as LANTA’s lease of the Lehigh Valley Mall Transit Center approached expiration in June 2025, LANTA and the mall management began discussions about the current location.

Mall management expressed safety concerns with the current location and the extent to which LANTA buses need to travel on mall property to access it.

“LANTA and Lehigh Valley Mall management have been cooperating in a process to identify an alternative that addresses the needs and concerns of LANTA and our riders, as well as the mall and its tenants,” O’Neil said in the email.

Lehigh Valley Mall General Manager Colleen Anspach did not respond to a voicemail left Wednesday morning requesting comment.
