SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — South Whitehall Township commissioners on Wednesday chose a developer for a plan to upgrade the township's Vistas Park.

Commissioners voted to award a contract to Construction Masters Services LLC, of Berks County, whose $534,859 bid was the lowest of three firms that submitted proposals.

Among the park improvements will be a canopy/picnic area, pickleball courts, pedestrian walkways, parking lot expansion and nature play areas.

The Vistas is a seven-acre neighborhood park in the northwest part of the township.

Among the park improvements will be a canopy/picnic area, pickleball courts, pedestrian walkways, parking lot expansion and nature play areas.

The township in 2018 embarked on a park improvement plan. It researched various options regarding playground and park design, engineering and environmental improvements.

The township applied for and was awarded grant funding from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Department of Community and Economic Development.

The park project is expected to begin within the next six weeks and must be completed by October, per the grant requirements.

The commission also approved a motion to award Vistas Park Playground COSTARS a purchase order to Recreation Resource for playground equipment.

Plastic surgery clinic gets extension

Also Wednesday, a local plastic surgery clinic's plan to relocate to a bigger office in South Whitehall was granted a six-month extension.

Aesthetic Surgery Associates, a plastic surgery and cosmetic dermatology practice, wants to relocate from its current location at 250 Cetronia Road to a 2.61-acre parcel at 1619 Hausman Road.

Aesthetic Surgery Associates’ Dr. Johnny Chung has said his practice is outgrowing the current Upper Macungie location.

The township board of commissioners gave developers the extension to finalize document requirements for a two-story, 32,379-square-foot medical office building.

The township board of commissioners gave developers the extension to finalize document requirements for a two-story, 32,379-square-foot medical office building.

The new building would almost double the square footage of the practice's current 18,000-square-foot building.

The proposed new building would be across Route 309 from the township municipal building.

The project would also include creating an 87-space parking lot.

The applicant, 1619 Hausman Partners LLC, has satisfied eight of 19 conditions for project approval, officials said.

Half of the remaining conditions consist of legal requirements and fees, utility easements and signage.

The deadline to submit documents for all conditions now is Nov. 1.

Residential development approved

In other action, a proposed residential development project was advanced.

Preliminary/final approval for the residential project was granted for a minor subdivision of a property at 2442 Huckleberry Road.

Requested by owner and applicant Robert H. Ruhe, the plan proposes to subdivide the 4.596-acre parcel into four residential lots for single family homes.

Each lot contains just over one acre. The property is zoned R-4 Medium Density Residential.

The application was originally submitted in 2013.
