WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — A candidate who won a slot in the primary election for Whitehall Township commissioner in May has dropped out of the race, officials confirmed Tuesday.
- Michael Dee has dropped out of the race for Whitehall Township commissioner
- Dee has moved from the district, elections bureau officials said
- The Democratic party now will fill Dee's position on the ballot
Michael Dee, who secured 1,096 votes, or 19.74% of votes in the primary election to fill four commissioners seats, dropped out of the general election, Timothy A. Benyo, Lehigh County chief clerk of Registration and Elections, said.
Dee has moved out of the district, making him ineligible for the seat, Benyo said.
According to Dee's LinkedIn profile, he has been chief of staff for state Rep. Jeanne McNeill since 2018. He previously was legislative assistant for government affairs in the same office.
Dee had previously been on the Whitehall board of commissioners in 2020 for one month.
The Democratic party now will choose a candidate to fill Dee's spot.
Dee's withdrawal from the race leaves three Democrat candidates — Ken Snyder, Jeff Warren and Victor Nassar.
Republicans in the general election are Elizabeth Fox and LoriAnn Fehnel.
