Run of hits in the late 1990s
Wannabe for the past 10 years has paid tribute to Spice Girls, the British girl group who from 1996-98 produced six Top 20 hits and two albums that collectively sold 11 million copies.
The group, known for its members' characters of Scary, Baby, Posh, Sporty and Sexy, burst onto the charts with "Wannabe." The song went to No. 1 and sold double-platinum.
The group's debut album, "Spice," sold 7 million copies in the United States alone, and also produced the Top 5 hits "Say You'll Be There" and "2 Become 1."
Its sophomore disc, "Spiceworld," sold four times platinum with the Top 20 hits "Too Much" and "Stop." The group's final U.S. hit was the non-album single "Goodbye" in 1998.
Its final album, "Forever," in 2000, barely broke the U.S. Top 40.
Wannabe uses Spice Girls' choreography, costumes and English accents to capture the band's Girl Power theme. They perform with a six-piece band.
Wannabe is the brainchild of a group of Toronto, Canada-based performers and musicians who also are best friends. They have appeared on stages alongside 1990s acts including TLC, The Goo Goo Dolls, Aqua, 98 Degrees, O-Town and more.
Pink Talking Fish, Dogs in a Pile
Pink Talking Fish, a hybrid tribute band that plays songs of three iconic bands, will concentrate on the music of "Wish You Were Here," the English rock band's ninth album released in 1975.
The disc, which followed Pink Floyd's best-selling disc "Dark Side of the Moon," sold six-times platinum. It includes the songs "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," "Welcome to the Machine" and the title cut.
Dogs in a Pile came together in Asbury Park, New Jersey, as an eclectic quintet, merging funk, jazz and rock with psychedelia to present what it calls "kaleidoscopic soundscapes eerily reminiscent of the days of yesteryear."
