QUAKERTOWN, Pa. — A country music singer who in the late 2000s had a five-times-platinum hit that won Song of The Year will perform at Univest Performance Center.

Jamey Johnson, whose song "In Color" won Song of the Year from both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association in 2008, will perform at 6 p.m. Aug. 8 as part of the venue's Sounds of Summer concert series.

Tickets, at $44 for lawn seating and $54-$126 for reserved seats, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2, at the Univest Performance Center website.

The show is the seventh announced for the Sounds of Summer series this year.

Writing success to Grammy nods

Johnson first had success writing songs for other artists. In 2006, George Strait hit No. 1 on the Country chart with Johnson's song "Give It Away," which also won the ACM and CMA awards for Song of the Year.

He also has co-written songs for Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Trace Adkins and others.

Johnson released his major-label debut album, "The Dollar," in 2006, but had his breakthrough with 2008’s platinum “That Lonesome Song” and its gold Top 10 hit “In Color.”

That year, he was nominated for three Grammy Awards: Best Country Album, and Best Country Song and Best Male Country Vocal Performance, both for "In Color."

His 2010 album “The Guitar Song” went to No. 1 and was certified gold, and 2012's “Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran,” peaked at No. 3.

Both were nominated for the Grammy for Best Country Album.

His most recent album, "Midnight Gasoline," was released in November.

In all, he has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards.
