Grammy-winning bluegrass band coming to Musikfest Cafe

Grammy Award-winning bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers will perform in Musikfest Cafe at ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks on June 22.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A Grammy Award-winning band that has had eight albums top Billboard's Bluegrass Albums chart will perform at Musikfest Cafe at ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks.

Steep Canyon Rangers, perhaps best known for touring and recording with comedian/banjoist Steve Martin, will perform at 7:30 p.m. June 22.

Tickets, at $39-$49, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28 at the SteelStacks website or at the box office at 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.

Steep Canyon Rangers formed in 2000 and released its debut album, "Old Dreams and New Dreams," in 2001.

It first hit the charts with its fourth album, 2005's "One Dime at a Time," which peaked at No. 13 on the Bluegrass chart.

Steve Martin, Grammy nominations

In 2009, the group began performing with Martin and accompanying him on his "world bluegrass tour," which played venues such as New York's Carnegie Hall and London's Royal Festival Hall.

After two more albums that hit the Top 5 on that chart, Steep Canyon Rangers hit No. 1 with the 2011 album "Rare Bird Alert" with Martin.

The album also broke the Top 50 on Billboard's overall Albums chart and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.

The group's 2012 album "Nobody Knows You," won the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.

The group's next album, 2012's "Nobody Knows You," won the Grammy in that category.

Over the next eight years, it had seven No. 1 Bluegrass albums in a row, including 2014's "Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers featuring Edie Brickell LIVE," which also hit No. 5 on the folk chart.

Another album with Martin, 2017's "The Long-Awaited Album," hit No. 7 on the folk chart and broke the Top 200 on the overall Albums chart.

The group's 2020 album "North Carolina Songbook" gave the group its third Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album.

The group's most recent disc was 2023's "Morning Shift."
