EASTON, Pa. — Northampton County Council on Tuesday voted 5-3 to make Commissioner Kerry Myers its president during the year’s reorganization meeting.
- Kerry Myers is Northampton County Council's new president, after serving as vice president in 2022
- Ron Heckman was voted in as the new vice president
- The new officers will serve in their roles through 2023
Five council members voted for Myers and three for John Cusick, who abstained from voting.
Myers previously served as the council’s vice president.
Council also voted to make Ron Heckman its new vice president, and keep Bethlehem attorney Christopher Spadoni as its solicitor.
Previous Council President Lori Vargo Heffner declined a nomination for another term.
During the comment period at the start of the meeting, County Executive Lamont McClure criticized outgoing president Vargo Heffner for not scheduling for consideration a resolution creating a health center for county employees in partnership with New Jersey-based Integrity Health.
In December, the council adopted a measure placing limits on the clinic project. McClure vetoed the measure just over a week later, after the year’s last council meeting.
County council will hold its first regular meeting of 2023 on Thursday evening.
