WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Neonatal kitten rescue Foxy’s Cradle is celebrating their fifth anniversary with a big birthday bash this weekend, promoting education, entertainment, and, of course, cats.

With a concentration on education, the beloved North Whitehall neonatal kitten rescue will host their fifth annual celebration of their founding this Saturday, combining adoption initiatives, feline education, and plenty of food and fun.

And despite a lengthy uphill battle with North Whitehall over their operation, Foxy's Cradle has weathered the storm of bureaucracy and made it through another year.

The big day starts at noon on Saturday, July 20 at Friedens Fire Company in Slatington, where approved adopterscan check out adoptable kittens.

While anyone is free to check out the babies, only approved adopters will be able to take a kitten home from the event. Interested parties can submit an application for adoption.

Following that, from 1 to 5 p.m., visitors can enjoy sandwiches from Galyean's Deli and Seafood Market, birthday cake, cool treats from the Udder Bar Ice Cream Truck, and iced tea and coffee bar, face painting, 50/50 drawings, and loot for the kids.

Organizers will also host a Pampered Chef fundraiser, a Duck Dive, and more.

But that’s not why you’re really going, is it?

Rest assured, the Foxy’s Cradle Mobile Kitten Unit will be on the scene, where guests can get a look at the specialized recreational vehicle the rescue was able to purchase and convert earlier this year.

Foxy’s Cradle founder Kandice Reinert said the cornerstone of the event will be rooted in education, a dire necessity for the public who wants to help cats and kittens in need at a time when rescues are overwhelmed and underfunded.

“So that's part of why we did the educational component for this group. So it's basically it's teaching kids, it's teaching your neighbor, my neighbor, anybody, anybody that finds a stray cat that wants to help, it's teaching them from scratch what they can do.”

“The general public needs to start learning how they can help themselves if they find themselves in a situation and no rescue was able to help them,” Reinert said.

“So that's part of why we did the educational component for this group. So it's basically it's teaching kids, it's teaching your neighbor, my neighbor, anybody, anybody that finds a stray cat that wants to help, it's teaching them from scratch what they can do.”

Those interested in learning more about cat care can also sign up in advance for special classes, including “Introduction to TNR (Trap Neuter Return),” “Neonatal Kitten Care Free Education Seminar,” and “A Day for Max – Teaching Children Care and Compassion Towards Animals.”

“I'm excited for my neonate class,” Reinert said.

“I used to teach with LCC, and this is the first time I actually get to host one with the bottle babies. So it'll be fun.”
