WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Not every tale of success features a cute puppy or a rosy-cheeked child, although we certainly cherish those heartwarming stories. At times, it revolves around a mature dog in need of hospice care and a young couple ready to open their hearts and home.
Pappy was adopted from Peaceable Kingdom a few years ago. Regrettably, he was returned to us when his adoptive family could no longer care for him.
Our medical team's assessment revealed a fast-growing, malignant mass in his mouth. We embraced him once more without hesitation, offering him love and comfort and resolved to give him the most wonderful final months, filled with car rides, hikes and ice cream. We all agreed that when that time arrived for him to cross the rainbow bridge, he would be encircled by love.
However, Pappy's story doesn't end here.
In June, a kind young couple stepped forward to make Pappy a part of their family.
“We chose to foster Pappy after hearing his story of his battle with cancer," they said.
"We initially went in thinking we could help him by giving him a good home and love, but if I’m being honest sometimes it feels like he is the one helping us by giving us such an amazing pup and so much love.
"Sometimes there is a stigma around fostering and adopting older adult dogs but Pappy has proven to show what a blessing it can be. He has been the absolute best addition to our family and given such love in hard times.
"I think we needed him as much as he needed us. We are very thankful for Peaceable Kingdom’s help in making the process very easy, and loving our boy just as much as we do.
"They have been so great to partner with. Thank you for bringing Pappy into our lives-it would not be the same without him!”
Pappy is thriving and living his best life. He is adored by his foster parents.
On behalf of Pappy and all of us here at Peaceable Kingdom, we thank the generous public for their donations which allow us to continue to be the waiting place, the place where these beautiful pets come to find their fur-ever homes.
