Robert Bold first joined the Parkland School Board in 1999 after a 30-year teaching career in the Allentown School District. The former board member will be considered on Jan. 3, 2023, to fill the unexpired term of Jarrett Coleman for the remainder of the calendar year.

S. WHITEHALL TWP. — The Parkland School Board will hold a special meeting next week to consider appointing a former board member to fill Jarrett Coleman's unexpired term.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, with the intent to appoint Robert Bold, according to a news release. He would fill the vacancy left after Coleman resigned earlier this month. Coleman was elected to the state Senate.

  • A longtime former board member, Bold would serve out the remainder of Jarrett Coleman's term in 2023

According to a news release, Bold does not intend to run for the school board in 2023, when six seats will be on the ballot for election.

“The plan is for Mr. Bold to serve for the remainder of the year until the six School Board Directors are elected during the regular election process in 2023," school board President Carol Facchiano said in a news release.

"By doing this, the school board stays nonpartisan and stands to benefit from Mr. Bold’s knowledge as a result of his long and dedicated history on the Parkland School Board. The board encourages anyone eligible and interested in running for the Parkland School Board in the upcoming election to do so by following the regular election procedure.”

Bold served on the Parkland School Board starting in December 1999 after retiring from a 30-year teaching career in the Allentown School District. During his tenure, he was board president five times and vice president three times.

Bold also was tapped in 2021 to serve out the remainder of an unexpired school board term, after Marie Maritch resigned.

Exactly how to fill Coleman's unexpired term was a topic of discussion at the last school board meeting, with some questioning the transparency of the process.
