UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — Upper Macungie Township will have a new leader of its Board of Supervisors starting next month.
Supervisors voted to make Vice Chairman Sunny Ghai the chairman starting in February.
- Former Vice Chairman Sunny Ghai will take over the chairmanship of the Upper Macungie Township Board of Supervisors
- Ghai has advocated for smart growth in the township
- Former Chairwoman Kathy Rader will become vice chairwoman
Member Kathy Rader will become vice chairwoman, and current Chairman James Brunell will not hold a leadership position.
Brunell was chairman of the board for nine years.
Ghai said he hopes he can do as good of a job as Brunell did as chairman. He said he's excited for his new role.
"It's been a great experience representing the residents of Upper Macungie, and I'm looking forward to serving as chairman," Ghai said.

Ghai, a Democrat, was elected to the board in 2021. He campaigned as an advocate for smart growth in the township, which has seen many warehouse developments in the past several decades.
Previously, Ghai was chairman of the Upper Macungie Good Neighbor Coalition, a group that worked to improve safety and quality of life issues within the township.
Ghai also is a former member of the Upper Macungie Planning Commission and is a certified citizen planner through the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.
