Both lanes of I-78 reopened after crash involving school bus, tractor-trailer

Pennsylvania State Police have ramped up their presence at Hamilton Crossings in Lower Macungie.

UPPER MACUNGIE TWP, Pa. — Both lanes of Interstate 78 were closed for hours after a Friday morning crash between a double tractor-trailer and a decommissioned school bus.

  • Both lanes were reopened by 1:15 p.m.

One lane was re-opened back just before noon and both lanes by 1:15 p.m.

The crash occurred at I-78 westbound on marker 48.3, near Route 100 South in Trexlertown, state police Public Information Officer Nathan Branosky said. Traffic was being detoured to Route 100 at the tiime.

Branosky said the bus was out of commission and not being used as a school bus at the time, and so didn't have children on it.

He said there were injuries sustained in the crash, but did not provide details.
