SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — An adult with a gun was apprehended at a Parkland High School football game Friday night, school officials said.

School parents and staff received an email Saturday morning from Superintendent Mark Madson, informing them of the incident.

“I am writing to inform you of a serious incident that occurred during our Friday night football game," the email began. "An adult individual was apprehended on school property for possession of a firearm.

“While this person had a license to carry the weapon, it is important to note that it is illegal to carry weapons on school property, regardless of licensing status and completely unacceptable.”

According to the email, a concerned student reported the finding to school personnel, who “acted immediately,” Madson said.

“I want to assure you that our security protocols worked effectively, and the situation was handled swiftly and safely.

"Thanks to the vigilance of our students, the quick response of our administrative personnel, and the quick action of our school resource officers, the individual was located and apprehended without incident.

“Their actions reflect our commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all school activities.”

According to the email, the incident is being further reviewed, the investigation continues and updates will be provided as appropriate.

Madson stressed the importance of reinforcing the reporting of suspicious activities or conversations and ensuring that the laws regarding weapons on school grounds are clear.

“I understand that this news may be concerning," he said. 'Please be assured that we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the continued safety of our school community.”
