North Whitehall to hold its first ever 'Movies in the Park' series

NORTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — North Whitehall Township residents will have new events to look forward to this summer.

The township will hold its first ever Movies in the Park series at various parks throughout North Whitehall this summer.

The township Board of Supervisors on Monday authorized township staff to have food vendors for the events.

The first movie, "Hotel Transylvania 3," will take place at sundown, about 8 p.m., May 12 at Laurys Firehouse Park.

Township Manager Randy Cope said township staff decided to put on the event to help bring more people to North Whitehall parks.

Cope said nearby municipalities put on similar events.

“We thought it would be a nice thing to bring to the township,” he said.

Cope said residents should bring chairs and blankets. Local organizations will sell refreshments.

The township will hold two more "Movies in the Park" events this summer: "Minions: The Rise of Gru" on July 14 at Levans Park and "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" Sept. 22 at Independence Park.

Other business

In his manager’s report, Cope said construction of fences around the recently approvedpickleball courts at Laurys Firehouse Park will start Tuesday, and installation of the courts likely will be at the end of the month.

Cope also said the township’s four day work week trial has been going well, and he plans in coming months to provide a report of township savings from the trial.

Township Director of Finance and Treasurer Seth O'Neill gave the treasurer’s report. He said the general fund balance for the township now is in excess of $11 million.

Supervisors voted to appoint Kris Kreglow to the Parks and Recreation Committee and voted to promote township employee Aubrie Miller to Assistant Zoning Officer.
