UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — A truck terminal in the township soon may expand.

The Upper Macungie Planning Commission last week unanimously recommended final approval for a plan to expand XPO Logistics, a freight transportation company.

XPO Logistics is at 7649 Penn Drive, near Allentown KinderCare day care center and two hotels, Staybridge Suites Allentown West and Sleep Inn Allentown-Fogelsville. It is behind Starlight Diner.

The plan is proposed as a warehouse, but the building functions as a trucking terminal.

The expansion would add about 19,800 square feet to the building, along with additional parking spaces and sidewalk improvements.

The plan now will go to the township Board of Supervisors for final approval.

In other business Wednesday, the commission tabled a plan for a 150,400-square-foot warehouse at 110 PA Route 100, proposed by Prologis.

Both the township and the owners of Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Allentown West adjacent to the property, originally objected to the plan, saying it would not be consistent with local land use laws.

But the parties later reached a compromise.

They agreed on a set of conditions of approval for the project, which includes a limit on allowed truck trips and improvements to the shared driveway.

Prologis also agreed to give $250,000 to the hotel to use for noise abatement, which will include window inserts and a sound wall.
