EASTON, Pa. - The Easton Area School District will increase security at Cottingham Stadium due to safety and security concerns at recent home football games, the district administration said Wednesday.
The written statement was issued by the Easton Area Middle School administration. It did not specify the nature of safety or security issues at prior games.
"All students attending the game must understand that their behavior at the football game may lead to disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion," the letter said.
In the interest of maintaining the positive atmosphere associated with school sporting events, measures will be taken to insure the safety of all attendees, the letter said.
Easton Area Middle School strongly encourages parents of students through Grade 8 to attend football games with their children, it said.
Additionally, since sporting events are considered school activities, students can expect consequences for behavior that does not meet the student code of conduct.
The administration specifically said:
- Uniformed Easton police officers will be present to enforce security
- No student ticket sales will occur after the first quarter of a game, nor will students be allowed to enter the stadium after the first quarter
- Adults only will be allowed to use Rover Alley. Students will not be permitted
- No loitering will be permitted around food vendors
- The Vanderveer parking lot and surrounding areas will be lighted during and after games
- No non-medical facemasks will be permitted in Cottingham Stadium
- No bags of any type are permitted in the stadium
