Allentown School District received funding to make upgrades to Andre Reed Park.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Lawmakers this week announced the Allentown School District got more than $3 million for projects, out of $16 million total awarded locally.

The money will go toward a registration center, HVAC improvements and land development, according to releases from local senators and state representatives.

State Sen. Nick Miller, D-Lehigh/Northampton, called the grants a display of "continued commitment to public safety and economic development."

"This funding looks to streamline an already stressful process for many families."
State Rep. Peter Schweyer

Allentown School District will receive:

  • $74,570 for a master site plan that will guide development of two pieces of land at Andre Reed Park and Dieruff High School's practice field.
  • $2.5 million to upgrade William Allen High School's HVAC system.
  • $522,205 for a project between the Allentown School District Family and Community Engagement Welcome Center for a 3,600-square-foot-area for a central registration welcome center for Allentown School District students and families.

"The space will accommodate activities aimed at creating a fast and easy registration process where students are directly connected to the services they need, including workforce and health monitoring for the public," state Rep. Peter Schweyer, D-Lehigh, said in a news release.

"This funding looks to streamline an already stressful process for many families.

"The more we can streamline stressful processes, the higher we raise the quality of life of those families, and I am always looking for ways to do that."
