ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Allentown school board is set to vote on demoting former William Allen High School Principal Cheryl Clark to an assistant principal position Thursday, according to two sources familiar with the situation. Clark would then be assigned to a yet undisclosed school within the district.
- Former Allen High School Principal Cheryl Clark expected to be demoted by school board, sources say
- Clark was put on administrative leave in April
- High school staff and students complained about her management style
The demotion resolution, which only identifies Clark by a set of numbers and would take effect July 31st, would set her salary at $105,000 a year. Clark was hired in August 2022 by former Superintendent John Stanford at a salary of $137,000.
The district placed Clark on administrative leave in April after months of complaints from staff, students and parents about her leadership style. Frank Derrick, the district’s director of recruitment and retention, replaced Clark as acting principal of Allen after Clark was relieved of her role for the rest of the past school year.
Superintendent Carol Birks said in early May she did not have a timeline for when the personnel matter involving Clark would be resolved.
District Spokeswoman Melissa Reese and Allentown School Board President Audrey Mathison did not respond to requests for comment.
