Pennsylvania State Police, the Lehigh County Coroner's Office and the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office are investigating a 50-year-old man's death in an accident on I-476.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A Bucks County man died Sunday morning after being struck by a motorist traveling in the wrong direction of traffic on the turnpike.

The 50-year-old Bristol man, identified only as "John Doe," was driving a motorcycle that was struck by a vehicle, Lehigh County Coroner Dan Buglio said.

According to a release from Pennsylvania State Police, authorities were dispatched at 9:09 a.m. to the scene of the crash at mile marker 67 on I-467 in Washington Township Lehigh County.

The man was pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m., police said.

Police determined that a 24-year-old female from Perth Amboy, New Jersey, in a 2019 Honda HRV "was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of travel," and hit two motorcycles in a group of six.

A 24-year-old man from Bristol also was injured. He was treated on the scene by Northern Valley Emergency Medical Services and transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.

The operator of the Honda had minor injuries, the release says.

More information sought

A Facebook post from Emergency Alerts County of Lehigh said the car, driving south in the northbound lanes, struck up to five motorcycles.

The post said there were "multiple injuries" and "a disturbance on scene."

511PA issued a travel advisory for the area at 12:31 p.m. to motorists traveling northbound. The travel information website shows closed/stopped traffic stemming from near the scene of the crash.

The scene was cleared by 1:20 p.m. and all lane restrictions were lifted, police said.

The release says the dead man has been identified, but information was being withheld until the autopsy is completed and the family can grieve.

The autopsy will be completed Monday, the release says.

The coroner's office, Pennsylvania State Police and Lehigh County District Attorney's office are investigating, a release from the coroner's office says, and no further information will be released.

Police said the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission also assisted at the scene.
