BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A stretch of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be temporarily closed this weekend.
The highway will be closed in both directions from midnight until 5 a.m. Sunday between the Pocono (Exit 95) and Wyoming Valley (Exit 115) interchanges.
The closure is required for bridge work and is weather permitting.
Crews plan to close the highway early Monday from midnight to 5 a.m. if all of the work is not completed Sunday morning. It won’t be required, however, if the work is finished Sunday.
During the shutdown, traffic will be directed off the Northeast Extension. The following detours are recommended:
Northbound:
- I-80 West 16.8 miles
- I-81 North 23.6 miles
- PA 315 North 0.3 miles
- Re-enter at Wyoming Valley Interchange #115
Southbound:
- PA 315 South 1.4 miles
- I-81 South 23.7 miles
- I-80 East 16.8 miles
- Re-enter at Pocono Interchange #95
State police and Turnpike crews will be positioned to assist motorists. Digital message signs will also give information on the closure. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
